I never knew the world of inexpensively-priced refurbished Intel Dual Core Processors could be as exhilarating as it truly is. But then, the world of used and refurbished electronics is seldom what it seems. It began as most eBay purchases do, a click of the mouse followed by, yet again, a click of the mouse. Suddenly, I was the new owner of a refurbished processor. But even more, I would soon become Master Tinkerer and Mr. Fixit to the woman I would come to love. I'd decided to take the job because Elanor had lovely eyes. They were the most dazzling blue I had even seen and when her lips drew back into a smile, I could tell, this was the right processor. "Let me show you my computer," she'd said, leading me to her back office. It was a humbly small room devoid of the little things I'd considered creature comforts. There were no cliche motivational posters on the wall, kitten calendars, or even really anything to tell you this room was anything other than bare. In the center of the small room, was simply, a single stainless steel table with what appeared to be grating, possibly for ventilation. Sitting atop the table was a modest USB keyboard, a 17" LCD display, and a dilapidated Dell Vostro 200 mini-tower. I knew immediately the type of issue she would have. Vostro is Dell's Bastard of a Business line. Nobody serious about computing would ever buy one. Maybe some pea-brained business owner that would delude himself into thinking the low price would save him a few bucks. NO. The Vostro was a curse, a plight on all who'd used them. I would be in for the fight of my career at the hands of the beautiful and mysterious Elanor... "Have you worked on a Vostro before," she'd asked. "Yeah," I'd said. "I'd worked on a few." I had decided not to share with her the anecdote of the Vostro 220 vs, the 2x4 or the time a client of mine had gotten drunk and taken his work computer to an air brush artist to have two drunken lesbians in the throes of passionate lovemaking forever adorned across the cold, black metal chassis. No, I would keep my Woeful Tales of misfortune to myself 'lest I frighten the client. I booted the machine and found an almost 30 second wait from press of button until the familiar old sight of Windows XP Home Edition Desktop flashed across the machine. This was no business computer. This was a fool's idea of home computing in a home office. INTOLERABLE!!! I opened the System Properties. As I'd suspected, A Pentium processor - but by the cruel hands of fate, A Celeron 440. What twisted mind was at work here? A single core 64-bit processor that lacked hyper-threading and any shred of mercy as my diabolical mind devised new ways to push Elanor bleak system into Windows 7 land. What madness would create such a harsh bastard of metal and flame-retardent plastic whilst forever handicapping the user to single core hellish performance? Dell was the answer. Dell would be my redemption. Having a HP netbook in my bag of tools, I quickly searched through a scholars journal on the finer details of this most UN-lavish of monstrosities - the Dell Vostro 200 only to find the plights of others who had languished in the doldrums of computer insufficiency - insolent tales of woe and misery. I quickly jotted down information on a small post-it pad and immediately consulted with my favored of sellers, seeking relief from this dreadful wretched box from Dell.... Behold, the Intel C2D E4400 2 GHz Processor.Read full review
