Product Information

The man called "Lord British," best known for designing the formative Ultima series of computer role-playing games and creating Origin Systems, lends his expertise to this persistent world RPG set in the distant future. Players will become part of a human renegade force sent to repel the advances of a crustacean-like alien race known as "The Bane." Combat in Tabula Rasa primarily involves firing guns while crouching and using cover in real-time. Instead of choosing a specific character class at the onset, players will instead follow branching career paths while earning experience from missions benefiting the resistance movement. All characters begin military life as a lowly recruit, eventually deciding on specialization trees promoting them to soldiers, commandos, sappers, rangers, and more.<br><br>Each role offers new weapon, tool, or armor proficiencies, allowing players to expand their offensive and defensive techniques against enemies. Characters can also acquire mystical runes called Logos, which tap into the universe's energy and imbue them with feats of power, similar to magic in fantasy games. The gameplay initially takes place on two alien planets: the forest-covered Foreas and the volcanic Arieki, each home to multiple regions or zones to explore, including instanced areas. Tabula Rasa's development team opted for a simplified user-interface designed to quickly get players involved in the ongoing conflict without having to spend an inordinate amount of time learning how to control their characters. Cooperative play with other characters is encouraged and enhanced with the game's built-in voice chatting functions.<br><br>Tabula Rasa is available as a standard release and as part of a limited collector's edition. Packaged within the latter's black, rectangular box is the following: a making-of DVD; a Black Ops poster; seven double-sided maps; an AFS field guide; an AFS military challenge coin; a set of dog tags; and a welcome letter from "General British," a.k.a. Richard Garriott. Several in-game items (unlocked via serial code) are available as well, including armor-enhancing dye recipes, a "Boo Bot" pet, and even an exclusive character emote. The game itself comes with one month of free online play, after which a subscription is required.

    Tabula Rasa in general

    TR is a love/hate game. There are a LOT of good things about the game, and over the past year or so, the game has lost a few of the bad qualities. It's not perfect, there are still a few annoying bugs and questionable design decisions. Still, it's an MMO where your aim and twitch reflexes matter sometimes, but are not too critical.

    Tabula Rasa servers closed - Should be Reopened!

    I love this game! Played from Beta through to the terrible day that NC Soft closed the servers hosting it. Someone needs to bring this game back somehow. Such fast action, wonderful environments, excellent music. I'm done with bows and swords MMO's.

    Looks Great on Mantle.

    Though the game is long gone, it is a great memento to look at next to other various collectors editions.
