About this product

Product Information

Players pilot giant walking "Wanzer" war vehicles into futuristic battle in Front Mission Evolved, the fourth game in the Square-Enix series to reach North American consoles. The title's "evolution" from previous Front Mission games marks a major switch in playing style, from turn-based tactical combat to fast-paced third-person shooting. Missions are set in sprawling urban environments, where collateral damage can be a factor. As they gain experience and treasure by accomplishing objectives, players can purchase custom improvements for their Wanzer walkers. A bullet-time styled feature allows players to temporarily slow the action down, for super-accurate, high-velocity shooting against multiple targets. Set in the second half of the 22nd century, the game's sci-fi plot involves sabotage of an orbital elevator and the international adversities that follow. Players take the role of a mechanic named Dylan Ramsey, who runs into some trouble with authorities and is forced to join the military. While he may not be the most willing soldier at the start, the know-how to fix damaged mechs in the field comes in handy. In some sequences, Dylan must leave his Wanzer, and play continues with him on foot as he enters buildings and other interior locations to complete mission objectives. Unlike earlier games in the series, Front Mission Evolved was developed by third-party studio Double Helix, a division of the Foundation 9 group whose previous work includes G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Is actually armored core with wanzers

If you preffered the tactical turn based games, stick with the first 4 games. FM 3 is a masterpiece. This one runs like one of the early armored core games. Not bad at all but it could and should be better. If you can get it cheap and you are a mech head. Get it.

  • Diamond in the tough!

In a world of saturated FPS heavy hitters, what's truly left out there for variety; providing a sense of freshness? Well, I guess this will do. Starting off, you're basically playing a FPS, but get a better sense that you're actually piloting a massive mech. Thankfully unlike the Armored Core series, these mechs have a "heaftier" feel than the lighter ballet mechs of other series. You pilot these mechs called "Wanzers"....really? Wanzers, I'm pretty sure that's what I called alot of fanboy nerds back in the day, but oh well. The missions are varied, but still have the same feel. The on-foot missions are pretty basic, and the controls seem disconnected and wanky (wanzers huh, I can say wanky). But these do one thing well.. They make you wish you were back in your mech kicking ass again. ...

  • Not Really Evolved

Changing a genre of a series is a big step, and the new Front Mission is no exception. Unfortunately, it's not a step in the best direction. I guess Square Enix decided to jump on the third-person shooter bandwagon, which is kind of disappointing. They took what made the series unique and replaced it with similarities of other Mech games, as you'll see below. That's not to say it isn't decent though. So what's good about the game? The controls are fluid and responsive, as is the camera. Wanzer battles are fast paced, and I admit it's satisfying to smash/blow your opponent into pieces. Graphics are nice, though the environment isn't as sharp. Now onto the cons. The characters in this game are bland. In the previous Front Mission games, I didn't mind watching the cut scenes and reading ...

  • A good game for a great price.

I wasn't sure what to expect out of this game. Overall I would say it is a good game. A couple of things have caught my attention that throws it off a little bit. The graphics are not superb, but get by good it enough. Some of the control of the armor is a bit stiff. The one thing I do love about the game though is the ability to customize the armor with various parts and weaponry. You can also add emblems when you unlock them and choose different patterns or custom colors. I recommend that everyone try this game out especially if a fan of the gundam games.

  • If you like mech games.

For the time this game came out the graphics are fine, The gameplay can be challenging and compelling but it may come off as easy once you understand how do play more , And it was a good value for when I brought it, I think the game is worth playing through but Its probably not what fans of the series wanted but it is a product of that ps3/xbox generation of games, where a lot of games seemed to be like that.
