I already have another of the same Remote. THis unit is Great at cutting down on the Clutter. It does need to be programed, first to be able to use it. How ever, once that is done. The ease of it's use and the Programable Macro's, make using it a Delight. There is a small learning curve. BTW, Don't leave it around for a Dog to lay. I did, with the First Unit. And the LCD Screen, didn't stand a chance. All.in All, Sony makes a Nice product
This is a great remote if you have a pc with window XP and have a tv or dvd player that was made a long time ago. My tv and dvd player are fairly new so is my ac/laptop/light switch and ceiling fan and none of them registered the newer a/v equipmet I have so I had to send it back. The consept of the remote is awesome, if it works with your things you will love it but it is very outdated, it is so outdated that Sony has no support available for this remote, the model number ranges but the idea is same for all of them. I ended up having to get a logitech and love it (I got the rechargeable one and its awesome). I would highly recommend you not bying this product to use with anything you just purchased this remote was no longer produced in 2005-ish? and since then anything newer there just isn't any codes resulting in the remote not knowing what you are trying to control.Read full review
This is a great remote and outperforms Sony's previous touchscreen remotes. Being able to utilize the PC to program the remote is definitely a positive. However, there are a few weaknesses of this PC programing, the Expres function programming wizard is hard to use and did not give me the desired results, and the "all off" hard button cannot be reprogrammed. Overall the backlighting and display is better than any previous Sony touchscreen remote, and operation is flawless once all the programming bugs are worked out. Probably too difficult for those with low technical ability, but a useful gadget for those with some experience.
This is sophisticated equipment. Unfortunately it is made and "supported" by Sony. This means that Sony has walked away from support. Amazingly, this device connects to the internet and is supposed to be programmable using a combination of on computer software and Sony's internet support site. However, all should be aware that Sony cannot or will not provide codes or instructions to enable this device to control and of it's new technology BluRay or Bravia systems. Why Sony finds this impossible, but Logitech can configure it's Harmony remotes to operate anything with amazing competence. Sony has a huge personality problem (there way "or/and" eventually the highway. Their products are generally good but their concern for customer service and the long term usefulness of their products is horrible. My $300 AX4000 functions admirable as a paperweight. My $60 Logitech Harmony runs my AV equipment without a hitch at 1/3 the size. Sony SucksRead full review
if anybody out there buys one of these remotes make sure it has never been set up on a computer, if it has you will have to find a pc with windows xp to reset it so you can use it, otherwise it is a paperweight
