256 gb is a great sized SSD for your os and programs. You might want to also use a standard HD in addition for your photos, videos, and data files because you will run out of space fast with only 256gb. My SSD arrived with a thin but deep scratch on the top of the housing that did not affect opertation. One critical aspect to note is that when you are partitioning and then formatting this drive for the first time, the default check in windows is for a "quick format."I tried this option first, and once it was done I started dumping my data onto my new drive. Within minutes I had a full system crash and the system would no longer boot up. Bios could not a bootable drive. Finally repairing both drives (I used the built in scandisk/chkdsk with xp), then reformatting the new SSD with a full standard format (not quick format), all was working as expected. Very satisfied, almost 3 years and not a single issue. Reading and writing speeds are not the best but it works perfectly as a secondary drive.
