OK, I am not a professional and I know that this is not a professional's camera. I used to have a 35 mm SLR and, well, you have to learn a lot to get the most out of them, have additional lenses, flash, etc. I like the simplicity of point and shoot digitals. I started out with the first 4MP camera on the market many yrs ago. then I moved up to Kodak digital 8.2 MP and a 10 MP. Now the 14 MP megazoom. I know that this same camera is available under both the AGFA and GE names. the 15x zoom is great! CNET says that the pics are above average for this type of camera, if the response time lags a bit. I agree that the pics are high quality. Lets face it, MOST people do NOT take pictures for a living and the ability to capture at such a high resolution is overkill. still, for the casual picture taking buff, this thing is magic. The model is still available and has been made less than the top model, by both the GE X500, X550 and X600, the last one takes a special rechargable battery, not the best choice, because high megapixel count eats up batteries. Still the 4 AA batteries do last quite a while, even at highest MP settings. The built in flash is quite nice and more than enough for inside shots and the reach of the flash is better than small point and shoot cameras. The main difference in the X400 and its bigger brothers is that the latter models have been reprogrammed to eek out 16MP out of the exact same sensor, and from the online reviews and sample pics, there is not difference to the human eye. The second thing is the newer models have a few more menu settings and physically, they have a small view scree to let you pretend that you are seeing through the lense, like a real SLR. It is just a very tine LCD and you won't use it much, if at all. The 2.7" LCD is what you will use, as it better simulates the picture. I wear glasses and the missing eye viewer is not missed in the least and not worth the added expense of buying the newer models to have it. IF you have a small business, this camera takes great pictures to use for advertising tarps and signs. the Macro settings allow a nice resolution for shots of small things, plants, bugs, whatever. Couple the 15X zoom with macro and you can see REALLY close things. Insects become monsters! if you get a refurb or lightly used one, the savings over a pocket size digital is huge and the feature rich menus are great for avid amateurs or newbies, alike. In fact, I like mine SO much, that I am getting into the business as a factory refurb seller.Read full review
You really need the instruction dvd to fully understand the capabilities of this camera. It has many features that are not readily obvious. Overall though, it's a decent camera for everyday use.

My main brand is Canon. 37 years, my brand. I needed a cheap backup. On my way to the Canon brand, I saw GE? Digital is digital. I purchased two. Light weight cameras. Great detail, 14 MP. up tp 400 MM lens, and on and on. I have literally given my three SLRs to three teens. Lens and all! They are in third heaven. Understanding photography, this is all I need. Big budget guys, and gals, go for it...lol! The rest of us, Get this GE Pro Series 14MP Digital Camera.

This is an excellent camera for the money. It will take a video, and will continuously take pictures when the shutter button is presses (must be set for continuous). A manual is available for download on the internet. Used 4 AA batteries and has automatic flash. It is small yet takes very acceptable pictures that can be transferred to your PC via a memory card.

This is a great camera with a lot of features included. It takes great quality pictures , from far to close distances. I love the clearness of the photos and the quickness shown when taking my pictures. It's also light weight. I would recommend this GE400 to anyone who wants to get a nice looking camera.
