I wanted to give an elderly friend an easy-to-use digital camera. She had never used a digital camera or a computer, so my main concern was ease-of-use, as well as reliability & price. After reading dozens of reviews by 'experts' and consumers (Amazon 'buyer reviews' are often helpful & provide first hand pros & cons), I purchased a refurbished Insignia (Best Buy brand) with a 2GB SanDisk memory card. The camera works great. After a brief review of the camera's functions & controls, my friend has no difficulty using most of the cameras features. She also loves the soft metallic pink color. And despite the camera's small size, she says the battery compartment provides a little extra thickness making it easy to hold. There are 2 cons. First, the LCD screen appears a bit grainy and when in direct sunlight sometimes the image on the LCD is washed-out & difficult to see. Second, the shutter release seems take a second while the auto-focus & other 'point & shoot' settings are optimized which is frustrating when trying to take a quick action shot. Despite the cons, the Insignia NS-DSC10A is a good camera for the money.Read full review
Great little camera for the price if you just want the basics. It's easy to use, takes good, but not GREAT pics. My only complaint would be the LCD screen is not very clear, pics actually come out better than they appear on the screen. The features are very similar to the Kodak Easy Share. I wouldn't recommend for a professional or even advanced photographer, but it's great for every day, general picture taking to share photos with family and friends. However, for special occasion pics that you might want to enlarge and frame, I would go with something nicer with more features.
As for the money spent on this camera, I definately ended up on the top. The Cameras is easy to use and has great pictures. The only thing that I have found that you need to have a memory card as the camera does not have any internal memory besides the set functions. The camera also switches to video very easy. Great if you want to take video, however video does not print for scrapbooking very well. I would purchase this camera again, but only on E-bay. I have never paid for an item more than I half of the market value.
This is a good camera. It unfortunately lacks the features of the NS-DSC7P09, 7mp pink camera that also uses AA batteries made by Insignia. The NS-DSC7P09 lets you set the amount of exposure time while the NS-DSC10A does not. A couple of other features are in the NS-DSC7P09 which aren't in the NS-DSC10A. Also the NS-DSC10A has pictures that are a little more grainy (yes lens is perfectly clean) than almost every new camera out there.
I bought this camera for my 11-year-old son as a 5th grade graduation gift. It is a great camera for someone starting out and for not a lot of money (just in case). It takes excellent pictures and is much, much better than the kids cameras that normally cost the same amount of money. The only thing I wish it would have come with was an SD memory card. Luckily I had one laying around the house. It has a recharable battery and I haven't priced the cost of a replacement yet so I cannot comment on that aspect. For the cost of the camera it is great for my son to take on an upcoming trip to NYC. It will take great pictures for him and yet if something happens to it or it gets lost, whatever, I haven't paid an outrageous amount of money on it. It also gives him the chance, with a less expensive camera, to show me that he is responsible enough for a more expensive camera when the time comes. All in all, I would highly recommend this camera as a beginner's camera.Read full review
