I needed a means of moving digital video from my Sony Handicam recorded miniDV tapes to my computer operating under Windows 7. Couldn't believe my Sony Handicams wouldn't do the transfer and the necessary drivers for Windows 7 weren't available anywhere. The Canon Elura 100 has done a fine job making that transfer for me over the IEEE 1394 (firewire) connection. It isn't a bad camera either. After just shooting an impromptu wedding ceremony and putting out the product on DVD I'm not sure why I'd want to jump to HD video and editing. Good quality video, excellent sound and great subject matter at nominal cost combine to trump HD in my opinion.
Arrived packaged very securely and before delivery date. All items function perfectly for a camera this old. Image quality is better than Sharp miniDV camera it replaces. Purchased this camera due to not being able to find my Sharp and wanted to convert personal miniDV tapes to digital. Works without any problems connecting to my MacBook Pro 17" using iMovie. Of course, once the Canon arrived I found my Sharp, however do not regret purchasing the Canon. Will probably give the Sharp to one of the grandkids. Very satisfied with purchase and price.

Purchasing an obsolete piece of electronic equipment is tricky. I only need it to play back old Mini DV tapes into my computer for DVD production. When my original model died (the mechanical tape driver crashed and burned), I was informed by a somewhat unsympathetic (and unhelpful) Canon employee that they no longer serviced it and wished me good luck. I probably could have searched the web for a promise to repair, but at what cost? So I looked on eBay too buy and am glad I did. I picked up a practically brand new item for much less than I am sure any repair bill would have been. Now I'm back in full swing working on boxes of Mini DV tapes that people keep dropping off for me to edit for them. I suppose there are other models then the Elura 100 that would work as well, but better the devil I know. It also works well for daisy chaining with my old 8 mm camcorder to digitize the analog signal for the computer (I use iMac).Read full review
Never got my computer to recognize USB connection. But what I really got the camera for required the DV Firewire connection for which there was no cable. I bought one elsewhere and it worked with my old XP computer. So I am satisfied.

A little squeaky but video recorder works well. Good value for the age of the product. Thanks!
