I would like to respectfully disagree with the other review of the Elura 40. I own an original Elura which I purchased new and a used Elura 50 which I purchased on eBay. Both cameras suffered the tape eject problem which Canon has acknowledged. Both were sent to the Canon Factory repair center and both were repaired AT NO COST. The original Elura was about one year out of warranty and the Elura 50 was at least three years out of warranty. I used the original Elura, an Elura 10, along with a Canon XL-1s to video a event at our church. I edited the scenes from all three cameras into the final cut of the program (no pun intended) and except for extremely low light shots you could not tell the difference among the three cameras. My experience is, the Elura line is more than sufficient for just about any individual use and Canon has been very good to work with on the Tape Eject problem.Read full review
I would have liked it to have had a power cord that plugged into it, and it is not the most ergonomic design.

When it was brand new I loved it. It was small, got fantastic footage, then the infamous "Eject Cassette" problem raised its ugly head and the camera is now totally worthless. It was a very expensive waste of money and time - kind of like opening a bottle of fine wine that had turned to vinegar.
Camcorder Sucks. Don't purchase one like this. For some reason Canon is aware of the "Remove Cassette" Error and will do nothing to fix it. Lousy design. I got ripped off buying this item. Save your money and purchase a Hard Drive Camcorder!!!!!!!!!!!!! jdm1815
