I am by far, the farthest guy from a "pro".. but i do have to say,, YES this camera is a great value and has more features then i needed , but Once i found out how to use them, provides me with great pictures!! the Optical ZOOM is by far a wonderfully useful tool.. optical-- much better then digital-- and the function buttons are programmable, so if, say,, you wanted to set up the camera, to take Black & White pitchers it saves the setting and it is easy to go back and forth from color to video, to Pop-up flash.. I LOVE THIS CAMERA!! only Negative i have yet to find in my 2 months of use,is, as you hold the camera i sometimes push the buttons inadvertently.. but easy to un-push and resume shooting.. I've owned many cameras Cannon AE-1 being my old-style best,,, and after going "digital" in the early 2000's this camera,, BY G.E. pleases me to no end.. 4.75 stars,, and buy rechargeable batteries,,, good ones,, and at least a 4 gig SD card.. the quality of pictures use more space then my old 4 mega-pixel camera,,... good shooter!!!Read full review
While looking to buy a cheap camera for myself, I came across the GE X5 and the GE X500. I was not very familiar with it because I never knew GE made any cameras. I did buy the GE X5 after reading a lot of positive reviews online and soon after taking it out from the box I tested it. I am happy with the quality of day time images and the zoom is one of the best features on this camera. The camera however, as described in most of the reviews is not the best for night photography and for sport or fast motion photography. The shutter speed is slow but since my main focus is not in these areas I am very satisfied with the quality thus far. I have been using it for the past one month and have to admit that the results do vary from time to time. It gave me very good pictures at twilight one day but the next time I tried to take some sunrise pictures, I was not very satisfied with the image and these were both taken in AUTO mode. One of the reasons why this camera is very good for the price is the all MANUAL feature. Very helpful for those who are looking to pick up a cheap camera before they invest on a costlier DSLR. The video quality is good but can be grainy at times. I did record a lot of home videos and they are pretty good for web but not for professional style video. The PANORAMA setting is good if you have a tripod else all you get is blurred out images. Over all, this camera is a very good buy and not so hard on the pocket. If you have a passion for simple photography, you can go for it but don't expect high quality images. You will just get web quality images and not anything close to HD.Read full review
Wonderful Camera for beginners who want to get into photography but haven't advanced past the small point and shoot digital cameras. I have always loved photography but I didn't know a whole lot about cameras. I loved to take pictures but they never came out as good as how I imagined in my head. So I decided to go out on a limb and get a better camera. I didn't want to spend hundreds on a really expensive camera that I didn't know how to operate so I opted for this cheaper version, hoping it would be the link between the two. It definitely is! It has so many great options that a smaller digital camera wouldn't have. It has 14mp so the shots are much clearer than a small digital camera, and it comes with a CD manual so you can read all about how to work each different option and what they do. It is so helpful when learning photography! Beginners will LOVE this camera, just as I have! I would like to advance to a more expensive camera in the future, but right now while I am still learning about all the options, this camera is PERFECT for me! I would definitely recommend to a friend!Read full review
Buyers, this is not a point and shot camera!! We knew that it was a DSLR; however we thought we would have to do minimal to take a picture. Instead, we found the icon settings to be cumbersome and not user friendly, but we are truly amateur photographers. Day pictures were easy to take; night pictures were the problem. We found it more difficult to take night pictures because we could never find the proper setting. The camera seems to have all of the functions necessary to take quality pictures, but you would need a cheat sheet to remember all of them when you are transitioning from day to night. You cannot use one setting for all night pictures, it fluctuates depending on the scenery (an amateur would not know this); this was too technical for us (we just wanted to take a picture). You will need to review the tutorial more than once and create a cheat sheet to carry around to remember the entire setting criterion. The camera lens is very sensitive, windy days will distort the picture making it blurry if you do not know how to hold it very very still. Overall, the person buying or operating this camera need to be more than a novice to operate it efficiently and must remember it will not function as a point and shot! Amateurs Proceed with Caution! It is best used by an middle to expert level photographer.Read full review
I was very hesitant to buy this camera, especially because GE isn't really a big name in the camera department. However, after reading a copious amount of excellent reviews, I decided to give it a try. I purchased it refurbished but it might as well be brand new. The quality of the pictures is noticeable better than the regular point and shoot cameras (at least a LOT better than my previous Canon Powershot). I love the panoramic view which is extremely easy to use. I still have a lot to learn about this camera, but I'm VERY happy with my purchase.
