"La Roda del Viento" ist das neue Werk des spanischen Flamenco-Pianisten Dorantes, für das er sich von der Odyssee Ferdinand Magellan inspirieren ließ, der kühn und entschlossen den kastilischen König Karl I aufsuchte, um Hilfe für seine Armada bestehend aus 5 Schiffen, mit denen er vom Hafen Sevillas ausgehend seine Reise Richtung der brasilianischen Küsten, dem südlichen Meer und den Molukken, die damals Gewürzinseln genannt wurden, zu erbeten. Dorantes geht mit seiner Flamenco-Seele an Bord dieser Schiffe, um diese wichtige Weltumsegelung zum Klingen zu bringen. Entstanden ist ein musikalisches Epos in 5 Sätzen, das den Enthusiasmus dieses Abenteuers, die Ratlosigkeit auf der Reise, die Pracht des Unbekannten, die Erschöpfung und die Entdeckung neuer Gewürze klanglich darstellt. Dorantes hat dafür ein groß angelegtes Werk für Orchester und Flamenco-Chor komponiert, das eine neue Art für die Verwendung weißer Flamenco-Stimmen darstellt.
