high standard, sharp, quick, super quality for big money
this is a sharp and quick lens. If you ever used this, you never touch a kit lens any more. AF-S is a nice standard, if you compare this with older AFs. High speed pictures like a film are possible. on 800 ASA you can work on candle lights. My feeling is, you would get most sharpness on more little aperture than 2.8. if you use "onboard" flash, you will catch the shadow from this lens below 50mm. weight: I like to carry my Nikon on the lens, using this you need only on lens,...:-) usage: optimal for people, quick animals, for portrait you get 36..105mm on D90, size: too long for flash, nice to handle, bad to carry prize: why is this stuff so expensive? top ... fast and sharp... colours are also great.. it brings out a bigger colour specter than normal lenses... downshides to such PRO lenses would be the weight.. if u carry many lenses with you. This lens should be one of the allround lenses.

Ein Allrounder für Reportage bei allen Lichtverhältnissen.
Es ist schon eine Dickes Ding, das Nikkor, insbesondere mit der Sonnenblende davor - nichts für Leute mit schwachen Armen. Auch hat es keinen gigantischen Zoombereich, brauche ich auch nicht. Dafür überzeugt die Bildqualität. Es ist das ideale Reportageobjektiv mit hoher Lichtstärke, da hat man noch genug Reserven bei schlechtem Licht. Ich kann es für genau diesen Zweck nur empfehlen.

Highly recommended!
I tested it using a D3X and then compared pictures -same objects, same light and settings- with two fast lenses -AF-S 24mm f:1.4 at 2.8 and 5.6 and AF-S 50mm f:1.4 at 2.8 and 5.6- and cannot see any difference but the aperture (2.8 against 1.4).
