Alexa eWeLink skills also control power to each powered speaker, via wifi commands to inexpensive Wifi switches. The user simply states "Turn Speakers On" via by voice command (singly to each speaker or as a group). Well, you have to know how to talk to Alexa, but other than that, I can't think of even a few negatives. I use Alexa to listen to music, and there is almost as much of it as you could wish for just on radio stations. The price for a 2nd generation Echo Dot is not much more than lunch, and it seems to be no less advanced than the 3rd generation. I don't have much in my house that is network-controlled, so I don't know what Alexa's skills are related to that. There are many things I don't know about talking to Alexa, so I will learn as I go, and it will be an enlightening journey.
