Futons are a brilliant way to make the most of your space, whether you're making the most of your spare bedroom or squeezing into a small student flat. With their lightweight wooden frame and flexible mattress, they convert from a comfy chair or sofa into a bed in seconds. What's more, they are so much more comfortable than a fold out foam bed, both in their sitting and sleeping formats, because the wooden frame keeps them off the hard floor.
What to Look For
There is a wide selection of futons available on eBay, so it is important to know what to look for to get the best value for your money. The most important part of the futon is the mattress and so you should go for the thickest mattress you can afford. Always check exactly what words like ‘premium' and ‘luxury' actually mean by checking the description of the mattress carefully.
Single and Double Futons
Another important element is the size of your futon. Futons come in one, two or three seat sizes, with a single futon doubling as an armchair and a single bed. Double futons will seat two and sleep two at a squeeze but may only be around four feet wide as a bed. For a more comfortable night for two people, it is worth spending the extra on a three-seater futon which will fold out to a full sized double bed at around four foot six inches.
Futon Frames and Mattresses
If you already have a futon, but it has seen better days, you do not have to replace it completely because you can buy all the individual elements separately on eBay. So if your frame is broken, or your mattress is starting to sag, you can simply replace that part to make your futon like new again. You can even buy new mattress covers to refresh the look of your futon if it is starting to fade or to match your new look when you redecorate your room.
