This neat and compact little fellow should (and would have) easily got at least 4...even 5 stars. However the critical flaw - as you may garner from other reviews - is the "non-backlit" LCD display. As a result, the displayed features and peices are only discernable - thus effectively playable - in good light. From tests, this is good outdoor sunlight or well lit spaces. I think you can forget low light. Massive (and in the scheme of things, somewhat bizarre) own goal. Whilst this is fine for me, I imagine could be an issue for most. That said, one small tip is to ratchet the contrast setting up to '8' (it comes defaulted to an incredibly dissuasive '3' for some reason) which will easily allow you to see the peices in good light—but I repeat, only in good light. Display aside, the brilliant innovation in this arena of chess games seems to be the convenience of making a move in just a couple of actions—a tap of the handy stylus on 'selected peice' then 'destination square'. And the programming is good, and intuitive. What a shame.Read full review
