Much more robust than the latest Dapol or Grafar models but obviously not as finely detailed or as accurate, the Minitrix range still commands respect in terms of pulling power and general "feel" as a representation of the original loco. Smoother running than Grafar this model is a good workhorse with fine moulded-in detail that looks good at arms length. If I was a European modeller I would have no hesitation in using the more modern incarnations of their steam locos and it is a pity that they do not make updated and accurate versions of British locomotives as they would be really stunning. Meanwhile these older Minitrix models can now be had at (sometimes) bargain prices and can still provide years of enjoyment, although purists will these days scoff at their "toy-like" appearance. If considering purchasing older n-gauge incarnations, Minitrix stand-out in terms of build quality and often match or exceed other makes of the era.Read full review
