This has blown my mind for a railroad range loco the quality is amazing. It crawls like a dream smooth from crawl to full tilt. It handles even my second radius curves on my inner loop with very little slow down. It's pulled everything I've thrown at it, it even doubleheaded with my equally impressive railroad range scotsman, I'm guessing they have a similar gearing. The detailing while not as good as the full fat version works perfectly for my needs and I honestly believe if I wanted to tinker with her I could get it to those standards myself as a semi competent modeller. I may do some of that when I change her to 2007 Prince of Wales but for the loco herself if your hesitant about picking up a railroad range incase if the performance side it's not a issue far exceeded my expectations. Look it up on Sam's trains on YouTube as well he has a comparison video which swung it for me. Read full review

This model arrived in apparently pristine condtion but was a complete non-runner. Having stripped it down systematically it seems a short-curcuit in the chassis pick up system cleared itself on reassembly and everything now runs perfectly, but not before I had to check out every component of the electrical drive circuit, which is surprisingly complicated on this loco.

Hornby p2this is my 1st Hornby loco for years ,the detail is very good ,'only photos to go by' no shiny parts a well explained operating/maintenance sheet .do I showcase it?or run it?we will have to wait and find out ,loco drive not tender makes a change, light tender heavy loco should make for good haulage

This is the railroad model which does not have a lot of detail . but there is enough to satisfy me It looks the part of a hard working heavy duty engine as the original engine was, and you can imagine it blowing steam as it pulled a heavy load up a gradient. Sits the track well but one thing I would have preferred is an articulated rear bogie instead of the rigid one on this engine. It can look a bit strange on bends as the cab sticks out a little , but having said this it is not a problem to me and I like it very much.

HORNBY have produced a model that looks great on any model railway, a simple table top to a sophisticated detailed layout. I feel that at one time they had lost their way but now are spot on managing to meet the demands of a wide range of enthusiasts.
