BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2 is the sequel to the 1999 thriller THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. The first film's famously effective horror was created in large part with its faux authenticity. Shot on handheld video, the film presented itself as the genuine footage of three students' fatal search for the mysterious Blair Witch. BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2, which purports to be a "fictional reenactment of real events," complicates the original's illusion of reality. Tourists have flocked to Burkittsville, Maryland to see evidence of the original film and its underlying mythology. Four of these visitors--Tristan and Stephan, a couple researching a book; Erica, a Wiccan; and Kim, a Goth--join up with town troublemaker Jeff for his inaugural Blair Witch Hunt tour. When they wake up after a night of partying, most of their possessions have been destroyed and they are unable to account for a large block of time. As they piece together memories, inexplicable events spiral to a terrifying climax. Director Joe Berlinger, an acclaimed documentarian making his first foray into dramatic film, creates a disorienting otherworld in which video clips, flashbacks, and visions are indistinguishable from the reality of the present. BOOK OF SHADOWS: BLAIR WITCH 2 illustrates the often blurry and always terrifying line between truth and fiction.

Blair Witch Mockery
I stupidly thought it was a genuine follow-up to the first film. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with it - it's just a load of vaccuous teenage bo***cks and I think it's very sad that such a genuinely unsettling and atmospheric piece of film 'sculpture' - screaming for an intelligently crafted sequel - has just been allowed to sink into the choking depths of 'gratuitous-cheap-thrill-deprived' obscurity. What a wasted opportunity. I'm just a sad old git of 51 and teenage kicks mean absolutely nothing to me, but I've been to the Museum of Witchcraft in Boscastle, and as far as I'm concerned no so-called special effects or dramatic music or screaming can compare with the old ragged poppet doll found stuck up a chimney to ward off spirits, or the sound of nothing but the snapping of twigs and ... From the horrific cirucumstances of Heather Donahue and her two followers, Joshua Leonard and Michael, getting brutally murdered in the conspiracy that was 'The Blair Witch Project', expectations for the second one were pretty high on the factor. As I started to watch 'Book of Shadows - Blair Witch 2', it became apparent that resurrecting an old topic two years down the line with some Blair Witch wannabes was not a good idea. Although the cast did work very well together, the storyline itself wasn't up to much - most of the unravelled secret at the end was quite confusing, and the fact that the Blair Witch had posessed them all into turning ritualistic dances into death manouvers was quite disturbing. Although Artisan are involved with the second movie, there was and will be only one ... Review of Blair Witch 2- Book of Shadows
I brought this film because i've seen it before and thought it was a great film. If you didn't like this first Blair Witch because of the way it was filmed, I would still recommend this film because compared to the first film it's quite different, it's filmed as a film unlike the first which was filmed with the actors going around with a video cameras. It about a group of College students at a Boston college who become fascinated by the events of the three missing filmmakers in Maryland (the first film), so they decide to go into the same woods and find out what really happened. Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included.
