I purchased this amp as i wanted a good surround sound system for my Tv, as well as to listen to the radio. I wasn't disappointed with this purchase, in fact the £70 I paid for this unit has not only enhanced the sound but has solved the problem of lack of HDMI ports on my tv! When buying an Onkyo you need to check on the HDMI ports as they can be problematic- its not worth splashing cash on them to get repaired. If you get one with the HDMI ports working then you will have many happy hours of enjoyment, as there is lots to do with this unit. I have plugged in my NowTV box, ps3, PC and DVD player into the HDMI ports and have 1 HDMI cable to my TV, enabling me to have 1 spare port! Picture quality is also brilliant! The remote control that comes with he unit is very good, however I used a one for all universal remote that controls my TV,Amp, and DVD player!! This amp doesnt have the tv onscreen menu like the other amps, but this is better as all menus are very easy to understand, use and set up. the display on the amp is more than sufficient for what you need! For those who are in the market for a cheap quality surround sound system Onkyos are very good value, there are 2 different kinds on Onkyo Amps, with wifi /bluetooth enabled and without- the difference is about £100! i have an ipad mini, ipod mini (7th gen) and to compliment the amp i decided to slalsh out a tenner and get a bluetooth receiver with a 3.5mm jack- i plugged it in the aux input (on front)and this enabled me to play music from these items problem free, Also I was enabled to stream internet radio to this unit problem free! (from my ipad) Yes the more expensive amps have it built in but you will pay a lot more for this! The only "down side" I have to say about this amp, is that when you turn it off, and want to watch a DVD with your headphones plugged into your TV, you are prevented from doing so, as when you turn it off, everything shuts down. To compensate this you can however plug headphones into the unit, so you will need to keep the amp on when listening to headphones. To summarize, all I can say about this amp, is that it didnt cost a fortune to buy, its not got all the modern hi tech extras (like network radio) but with the help of a bluetooth receiver (costing less than a tenner) you wont be able to hear the difference in the sound compared to the modern , far more expensive amps out there! best £70 i have spent in a while!Read full review
