I've had a few espresso machines before and this one is by far the best prosummer level machine i've used. The pressure is great and it's sturdy and simple to use. As far as a click and go system goes this machine is as good as you'll get for the price. It's easy to use and easy to clean. That said there are a few things it doesn't do so well. First the portafiller basket you get with the machine is 'pressurised' meaning that all the espresso is forced through one tiny hole. It creates a great 'looking' espresso, but it tastes like rubbish and makes it really hard to calibrate your grinder. You'll NEED to replace this at a cost of £10 to get it to work normally. Another problem with the machine is that you can't place a 2oz shot glass under the basket as it's too narrow. This makes it difficult to calibrate and pull double shots into the same glass. I would recommend this to friends as it's a great machine, but I'd warn anyone who wants good espresso that you need to spend another £100 on accessories to get it working the way you want, and you'll also need to spend quite a few quid on a grinder.Read full review
Despite some other reviews, we have found the machine easy to use with good results. Only complaint is the tiny plastic 'crema' part which prevents the coffee spitting out all over the kitchen but is so small and loose we have already dropped it into the rubbish twice since Christmas! I dare say with better coffee and more effective tamping we could have even better coffee, but hey, it does what it's supposed to do and makes a great cappucino every morning.
The Gaggia makes excellent coffee , quick & easy to use . The only negative point is its a bit noisy on making a cup , as the drip tray is loose fitting & vibrates along with the cup .Would recommend .

The Gaggia Classic is a solid, well-made espresso machine that, used properly, will give you a coffee as good or better than your favourite coffee shop. As on a professional machine, the portafilter and group head (that's the bit that holds the coffee and what it connects to) are chromed brass which means they help keep the heat constant. The brush stainless steel body looks good and should last a lifetime. There is nothing to compare to it at this price. But there are things you need to get right: you need good coffee beans and a good grinder. The grind has to be fine enough (and tamped right) so the water does not pass through the coffee too quickly nor too fine so that it takes minutes to drip through (it should take 20 to 25 seconds for an espresso). Frothing the milk for cappuccino takes a bit of practice too, but get all that right and this machine will make great coffee.Read full review
If you like your espressos and cappuccinos, and you want to feel like a barista at home, go ahead and buy the Gaggia Classic!! It is a well built machine and will produce amazing espressos! The plastic steam wand is not the best if you want to do latte art but it is possible to upgrade the wand. I have done this and I can now produce superb micro foam! The water does heat very quickly. I love mine and it looks great in my kitchen. If you buy yours second-hand and you know it comes from an area of hard water, I would recommend you descale the machine ASAP.
