    Good and necessary

    You can't do without it, it is expensive, it is very good quality. My 16 year old Mercedes's back plates had rusted where the hand-brake springs should clip in, the metal had ripped away with the force from the springs, this made the rear brakes squeal for a short time when I drove off. Replacing the back plates made it all go away. A tip when fitting: normally you would have to remove the rear hub and bearings to fit the plate. This would need specialist tools, so a trip to the Mercedes specialist dealer or independant garage, but if you cut the plates in half, at the right position, they will fit around the hub and can be bolted to the inner hub as normal. Sorted.
