    Cleverly designed unit

    I bought this as a replacement as an existing identical unit in my Mk4 golf had packed up, to my surprise I discovered that the existing unit was itself a replacement, someone having cut through the washer pipe and rejoined it when replacing (not a good idea). This one bolted straight in and works fine but it's surprising that the car has now needed three albeit the mileage is 235000, as the unit isn't used a lot and only works on intermittent wipe. The problem seems to be that the internal metal part controlling the movement rusts/seizes over time. The biggest issue was reconnecting the washer pipe as despite a number of attempts I couldn't achieve a watertight fit and eventually purchased some genuine pipe joiners from the local vw dealership, these proved expensive to buy.
