    Excellent power boost for car starting.

    Used to replace a 'dying' Bosch battery of same physical size. However, this one is stated to have 10% more capacity and capable of producing 100 extra starting amps more than the manufacturer recommended battery, so there is plenty of reserve there. As the Bosch battery ( 3 year warranty) was fitted over 4 years ago and was unable to start the car, a 13 year old 2L diesel, without the car's electrics playing up, especially the power steering, I decided to research a replacement to remove any uncertainty over car starting. As a 'big name' brand which is fitted into new cars by manufacturers I'm hoping that this this battery will be reliable enough to last longer than the 5 year warranty period. So far the performance has been excellent and the cost was about 20% less than the previous one ...

    Appears Solid.

    This battery seems like a good quality product and arrived well packed and appeared to be in good condition. To be honest I'm not able to assess the battery objectively - time will tell. One observation I did make was that when I connected it to my expensive 'intelligent' charger before fitting, it took a long period of input. This surprised me and I worried that it was significantly discharged and that that was not a good thing?

    Would've given 5 stars if......

    Battery arrived as advertised and next day as promised - so good so far. Battery needed a top up charge to get it up to 100%: around 3 hours taking 6 amps and 1 further hour at an average of 3 amps so 21 amps in total suggesting it was at around 73% charged on arrival - OK I suppose, some discharge to be expected. Time will tell if it lasts and whether the 5 year warranty is worth anything. Having to chase for a VAT invoice despite asking for one during checkout.

    Varta car 12v battery

    Varta has a solid reputation for quality and is my third purchase in 17 years. Only after 5 or 6 years of hard use does the battery start to lose its charge if not used every day or so.
