We bought this book at the suggestion of our six year old grandson's teacher. He loves going to school - loves his teacher and learning. Unfortunately, his homelife is fractured as so many are today. Mom and Dad aren't married, each has a significant other and another child. Our grandson has no grounding except us. School takes the brunt as his mind wanders and he loves to become the class clown for all the attention he gets. The result is low marks, time outs, trips to the principal and eventually, child and parents go into MELTDOWN. The author of this book proves to be extremely insightful in both recognizing the adult's concerns for bad behavior and the child's need for loving, firm consistent rules with the freedom to be their own person. It is a great book for everyone with children in their lives who have problems with acting out. NOT a book for people who want robot children are seen and not heard and act like those on "Leave it to Beaver". Highly recommendedRead full review
I LOVE this book! And any parent who is dealing with a child with Aspergers who has meltdowns will DEFINITELY benefit from this book! The main point that helped me SO much in helping my son is changing MY attitude about the meltdown. This alone has helped immensely! Now we are working on the triggers. A MUST HAVE in an austism spectrum/aspergers parents or caregivers library!
Wonderful book for all parents, a modern day Dr. Spock. It will help caregivers and parents to deal with all difficult children. It also helps the adult deal with their reaction to an action.
