I'll agree with half of what americangardens wrote. The live versions of the songs from 'Sink Your Teeh Into That' and the ones written for the live CD smoke the studio versions. As Soon as Mark Mille, Mitch Perry and Phil Naro jumped in it with Billy Sheehan, you heard and in some cases saw, what would ultimately be(in my opinion) the strongest version of TALAS. Having saw the band easily a good dozen and a half times, the live CD fully displays the band as a potent force in the metal scene that never got the recognition it deserved. My advice is licten to the studio stuff first and then prepare yourself for the live CD and you'll notice a big difference.
One of the groups that was appearing in bars around the Baltimore area during the early 80's was Talas, lead by the brilliant bass playing of Billy Sheehan. These two LP's were the acme of that group. I had seen both lineups play, and the Sink Your Teeth lineup was probably more musical, doing covers such as 21st Century Schizoid Man. I did like Mitch Perry's leads a bit better than Dave Constantino, which makes the live LP quite awesome. I am sure most fans know this, but the hidden meanings behind NV4 3345 and 7718 (3a17) are clearer when viewed upside down, hence sheehan and bill(live). Of course the ultimate pairing for Billy was about to come on David Lee Roth's Eat 'Em and Smile, with the Italian virtuoso, Stevie Vai. Still this CD should be an essential building block in anyone's metal collection. My favorite songs are Sink Your Teeth..., Shy Boy, High Speed on Ice, and a very cool instrumental, the Farandole, which many will recognize from it's classical roots.Read full review
A must for any Billy Sheehan fan, or a fan of excellent rock n roll. Talas is the best band you never heard of, hands down.

This is a great display of Billy Sheehan's musical talent. However not much is left for songwriting as well as music composition. The rest of the band seems to lack talent and can not support Billy Sheehan.
