I think this was the last studio album Queen recorded before Freddie's passing. Of their later albums it's become one of my favourites and it is a quietly iconic album. Freddie was very ill during the making of this album and you can see that in the videos they made for the singles from this album. It's a very personal and reflective album and also very emotional. Freddie looking bacl over his life. It has some of his best songs, and still has elements of flare and lyrical drama but also really human lyrics too. I love the track "I'm Going Slightly Mad" and the video Queen/Freddie made is also a favorite and fun, but also has a pathos to it as well. But the stand out song is the beautifull song/ballad "These Are The days Of Our Lives"It's an achingly emotinal song and many say it was Freddies comment on his own situation at the time, but also a reminder to hold onto all that is precious in our lives.Even the way Freddie sings on this album is different. There s not one bad track on this album and I think it has a timeless qquality to it.This album has a mix of joy and sadness. I think it is one of the group's best albums..I love the cover artwork as well which was animated in one of the vidos for the album. and I have a prit of it. It's hand coloured engraving I think and I think it's also one of the groups most Iconic album covers.I guess this album was Freddie's goodbye to the world, his fans. But it's also a celebration and reflecto of a life lived and lived to the full. It's the album I listen to the most. This is one all fans should have, but it's also just a great stand alone album to have as well it's definitly an emotive classic of an album for sure.Read full review

As a Queen fan I have a number of their albums, to listen to in the car when I am alone, so the volume can be what suits me as well as the track that I am listening to. this CD has tracks that I never tire of listening to and is actually a second copy that has been set aside in the same box that has my life insurance polices and a copy of my will and instructions for tracks to be played at my funeral.

Most people buying this will presumably have owned it before and if like me buying it again just to get a few extra out-takes or remixes. As a 50 year old with an average (Bose) system and perhaps my hearing not as good as it was I find it very difficult to hear any major difference in the remastered sound other than it being louder than my 1991 issue! As an avid Queen fan it has always been one of my favourite albums and I am always eager to hear the unreleased stuff but reluctant to pay the high price for these bonuses. The original album is a brilliant mix of heavy (The Hitman), hard rock (Headlong, Ride The Wild Wind), hard rock ballads (These are The Days..Don't Try So Hard, & Bijou), pop (I'm Going Slightly Mad)gospel (All God's People), anthemic (Innuendo, The Show Must Go On) plus Delilah & I Can't Live With You. The bonuses-are they worth the extra? I Can't Live With You-available on Queen Rocks-a great version but already owned. Lost Opportunities-B side already owned and not a classic Queen track-probably more fitting on a Brian May solo album. Ride The Wild Wind-with Roger being my favourite member of the group this early version is worth the money-a brilliant glimpse of how a Queen song develops-can listen to it again and again. I'm Going Slightly Mad-Mad Mix-another glimpse of how different a song can be with another mix-love the original and love this one to. Headlong-another good insight into the development of a Queen song, Overall having so far got 9 of these deluxe versions this ranks as the best value together with Queen 1 as the bonus tracks are sufficiently interesting and different and complete enough to warrant being issued. Now going for £23 in my local HMV don't believe it is worth that but if you can pick it up for around £12/13 worth a punt-if not avid Queen fan just get the normal version for around a fiver.Read full review
