DESTINE TO BE A CLASSIC AS SOON AS IT WAS MADE! THIS WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME. I always remembered watching this movie with my Daddy as a little girl. Tony Randall gives a memorable priceless performance. His ability to change character is remarkable as he plays 7 different rolls in this movie. Barbara Eden is so good in her roll as well. I was shocked to know ow many people have heard of this movie and yet never seen it. Tony Randall is a Chinese drifter with a traveling show. The townspeople see their soul through Tony Randall's performances as he plays all the characters in his traveling show. Whimsical characters and just a wonderful entertaining movie. Of all the movies I own this has to be in my top 5 of all time. If you miss the opportunity to see this movie it will be a mistake. This is entertainment for the whole family regardless of your age. There is much wisdom and many life lessons in this movie. It is excellent down to the last second and into the credits. See it, buy it.Read full review
Tony Randall takes all the major roles, the make up by William Tuttle was really remarkable for its time. The personality characteristics of the quirky townspeople reflected by the various personages of the "circus performers" turns the tables on their expectations as they get drawn into the "act" of each personage. Vices never change through the ages, and these are reflected in the characterizations of each individual who expected much, but got honesty in return of the price of admission.

George Pal's 1950s adaptation of George Finney's 1935 fantasy novel is a brilliant work with very minor flaws. It is essentially a moral tale, avoiding physical violence while relying on psychological pressure. As always with Pal, costume, detailed sets, sound, tight plotting & overall aesthetic standards are superb. Only flaws noted are confusion of the correct pronunciation of /Lao/ & Abalone, & Tony Randall's inconsistent 'Chinese' dialect English. The sometimes regrettable stereotyping is typical of the period.

Tony Randal plays all the oddball characters in this imaginative fantasy film. Lots of old school special effects, make up and stop motion animation. I watched it years ago, and thought I'd like to see it again. It's definitely one of a kind; really kooky and memorable. Dvd quality seemed 720p, which looked fine really, but not available in other formats or editions that I know of.
