About this product

Product Information

Ben Stiller plays Larry Daley, a down-on-his-luck divorced father in this family-friendly tale directed by Shawn Levy (JUST MARRIED, CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN). Larry has lots of ideas and dreams, but none of them come to fruition. In an attempt to prove his stability to his ex-wife (Kim Raver) and his son, Nicky (Jake Cherry), Larry accepts a job as a night guard at the Museum of Natural History. But the elderly night guards who hire him (played by entertainment legends Mickey Rooney, Dick Van Dyke, and Bill Cobbs) fail to mention one crucial detail: when the museum is closed, everything inside comes to life. From Attila the Hun to miniature Roman soldiers, African mammals to Neanderthal men, and Egyptian mummies to dinosaur skeletons, the museum teems with lively activity. Now it's Larry's job to control the mayhem and show his son that he is, indeed, a great man after all. There might be a moral to this story, which is based on the book of the same name by Milan Trenc, but the screenplay and action remain light and breezy. Stiller is perfect as Larry, particularly in scenes with a sneaky monkey who repeatedly gets the better of him. Brief appearances by Anne Meara (Stiller's real-life mother) and Paul Rudd add to the fun. Carla Gugino plays a museum docent, Ricky Gervais portrays the incomprehensible museum director, and Robin Williams moonlights as a wax figure of Teddy Roosevelt that comes to life. Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan are particularly amusing as a bickering miniature cowboy and a Roman soldier.

  • A fun, family-friendly movie to be seen over and over

"My dum-dum want to speak" This was a great fun, family-oriented movie. You probably already know the story line: a museum where everything inside comes to life each night. There have already been some good reviews that touched on many important parts; the fact that it is very family friendly, a touch of history (not a lot, but it's there), and a lot of good clean humor. There are a few things that I really liked about the movie that have not yet been touched on here. The story is really about a divorced dad trying to maintain his relationship with a son he only sees a couple of times a week due to the divorce. While this is a common story in movies, I like the fact that it portrays a family where, though divorced, the parents remain civil toward each other and have the interests of the ...

  • A VERY FUNNY FAMILY MOVIE

Night at the Museum is a movie about unemployed Larry (Ben Stiller) and him desperately wanting the respect of his 10 year-old son. Larry takes a job at the Museum of Natural History to try to gain some stability and keep a place close to his son. When Larry decides he finally wants to make this job stick, he uses clever and interesting ways to keep the peace and destruction down to a minimum. The “advice ridden” and responsible presence of Robin Williams was great. Robin was toned down and believably smitten with Sacagawea. The film is filled with excellent CGI museum displays running amuck and wandering the halls. There was so much to see I’m sure the family will enjoy this movie much more upon DVD re-viewing. In the theater, my 6 year-old son cheered aloud when he saw Owen Wilson ...

  • Good family entertainment!

Funny and entertaining for my whole family. They still put in a few words that I would have rather they left out for the kids, but all-in-all one of the best family flicks of recent years. No one dies to move the story along, which is a pleasant change from Finding Nemo, Lion King, The Incredibles, etc. Worth a look, even if you don't usually like Ben Stiller's way over the top kind of humor. That's toned-down for the younger range of viewers. Plus Mickey Rooney is hilarious as the crabby security guard!

  • My Night at the Museum

The first time I saw this movie I rented it. At first I couldn't grasp what it was about but then towards the middle of the movie it hit me! I had to watch it to the end and turned around and watched it over again. The first time around it was funny, the second time around it was funnier. I really enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone with a sense of humor. The main character Ben Stiller in other movies, this was an additional inspiration to want to watch what he comes out in next! Very clean family-oriented movie that wins 4 stars or more in my book! Watch and enjoy!!

  • A fun movie!

I definitely loved this movie. The special effects were terrific! I do have a response to Windermaster99's review. With regards to Ricky Gervais, he is actually a very funny actor. If you've ever seen The Office (original British version) or EXTRAS, you'll realize he's hilarious! Of course, you have to like british humour, or it'll get lost on you. So okay then, go out and see this movie if you haven't yet!
