Reviews
Reviews from: Soldier of Fortune USA Today Nearly 180 pages of immediate-action drills for when everything goes to hell in a handbasket (SOF editors all keep a copy on their desk at all times). Succinct overviews and pity, practical courses of action from legion experts-in-their-fields, to fight Murphy at least to a draw. Aficionados in some fields might quibble over certain techniques, but for the amount of ground this compact volume covers in dealing with dozens and dozens of worst-case scenarios in common-sense fashion, it's well worth having. Odds are good you'll meet more than one of the situation during your life, and the time spent studying this volume may turn out to be some the best time you ever invest. If nothing else, it makes you think out your options beforehand, so you have a plan. Those with deep-seated fears about killer bees, quicksand, mountain lions and sharks will enjoy The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook by Joshua Piven and David Borgenicht, a handy little book for the extremely prepared that is climbing the best-seller list. This is a no-nonsense, no-fooling around guide with straightforward information. But fear not: The authors have enough perspective to acknowledge the campy appeal of an armchair guide for the anxious. "We thought it would be funny to people," Borgenicht says. They were, he says, "inspired by pop culture as much as by paranoia most of the scenarios we talk about were a TV or a movie scene." Sharks, the authors say, scared both of them to pieces in childhood. Blame it on Jaws.

Dvd arrived quickly and well packaged and taken care of. The item was listed as acceptable and met all of my needs but here's a quick description of what I got: Some wear is visible on the plastic sleeve on the outside of the case. The inside leaflet was still there! The disk has about 3 very notable scratches, although none are bigger than about 2 centimeters. Little to no grime anywhere on the product. Great service!

  • Good Book, could use more details.

I like the book because it goes into things that you might actually need in a disaster situation such as, "How to hot-wire a car" and "how to break in a door." Not that those are the only ones, it also has things about animal attacks and how to take a punch. There is a section about how to land a plane and more. This book would be much better if it went into more detail, but the detail it has is probably just enough for the average or above average person. My opinion might be partly mis-construed due to my being a handyman and a home mechanic, but I liked it. (Truthfully, I probably could have written this book myself, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.)

  • It's you worst case scenario, are you ready?

What if you find yourself in some quicksand? You lock yourself out of your car,or get bitten by a snake you thought was harmless. Your car go into the water, can you get out safely? Here's a great way to start your day on a business trip, and the PILOT has a heart attack,no one know how to land a plane! I know you say the odds are this will never happen to you. This little dandy will help you fell ready when the last thing you expect does. A quick read and handy to keep in you bag, car, where ever you keep a small pocket book. GET THIS BOOK,BE READY.

  • AKA The Complete Idiots Guide to Survival

I bought this book as a Christmas present but I couldn't resist reading it myself first (does that go against some rule of etiquette?). The book is very entertaining and informative. I hope they have the facts right but if they don't, who's going to dispute them. Dead men tell no tales. It's a funny book, kind of like a complete idiots guide for survival. I hope I (or anyone) will ever have to use this knowledge but it's comforting to know what to do if it does. I would recommend this book to everyone who doesn't panic (it seems to be the first step in any dangerous situation). Personally I'm gonna panic for at least a couple of seconds, you know just to get it out of the way. After that I'll try out what they recommend.

  • Definently an accurate description of what this book is

Every neurotic, like myself, will probably find some relief in owning this book. I often find myself wondering what I should be doing in outsanding circumstances and the horror that I will be unprepared led me to this book. Do I think I will ever need to fight off a shark or convince a Black Bear that I'm not lunch? Probably not. But on the off chance that I do I have the step by step instructions on how to deal with the situation and that leaves me plenty of free time on the brain so that I can worry about other useless stuff!

  • Some great scenarios you'll likely never have to worry about , but fun!

It's a real hoot ! Hope I never need to practice any of the survival tactics , especially with the bears, but if I do , i'm prepared.
