I bought "Fonteyn and Nureyev - The Great Years" by Keith Money. It arrived two days ago and I can't put this book down! This is a "Coffee Table" size book of 268 pages of the most gorgeous photographs of Fonteyn and Nureyev I have ever seen. The photos are lush black and white prints, many are full page shots, and all would feel perfectly right hanging in an art gallery. Where to start? It seems that Keith Money was in the right place, at the right time. From the beginning of their Royal Ballet partnership, Money was photographing their rehearsals, performances and "on the road" productions. It is so obvious that Mr. Money had a genuine working relationship/friendship with his subjects. Though his camera never seems to create an intrusion - resulting in the most spellbindingly wonderful "candid" flow of documentation - his agenda was unerringly acheived. Every shot is a perfect moment. His photos dance! How much talent is one man allowed to have? I guess if you are going to be documenting the Fonteyn/Nureyev partnership, you'd better have a lot of it too. This book would have been amazing enough, if it was "just" a photo book, but it seems Keith Money can also write! His commentary about Fonteyn, Nureyev and the time they all shared is charming. Their art was sublime. It's nice to know there were also some great laughs along the way. The sad moments shared during these years, are treated with the respect and caring you would expect from a friend. If you like ballet, you will love this book. Absolute must for a balletomane's library. Great photos and absorbing text from the photographer that knew these dancers over a long period of time and traveled with them.
