Lightweight and easy to program
I have several of these types of transceivers. Some in repeater configuration. I also like its predecessor the Icom F6021. These LMR, (land mobile radios) are so easy to program with the Icom programming CD. The program is setup in a spread sheet format. Real user friendly. The adjustment procedure is the same type of spread sheet. Again, real easy to use. If this type of radio is used in repeater configuration I would suggest the power output be held to 20 to 25 watts output. I don't feel they are 100% duty cycle. My thoughts are they are to be use in intermittent service like 50% duty cycle. From a repair standpoint they are real easy to take apart and fix should you be inclined to do so. I would suggest being very knowledgeable with repair procedures and good soldering ability. I have ... I have several of these types of transceivers. Some in repeater configuration. All in all I give this radio 5 gold stars. Keep in mind Icom no longer manufactures this radio. Its been replaced by the F6021-51 or -52 depending which part of the UHF band your operating in. Five stars the F6021 as well.
