This scope is a great bargain and is capable of far more than I need.
This is my first digital scope and I bought it only because my trusty old analog was damaged beyond repair in a moving accident. I have to say I was uneasy both about buying used and apparently untested and adjusting to digital. I was even concerned updates would be fast enough for clean dynamic analysis. I was also considering more modern flat screen alternatives as my bench space isn't as massive as it once was when everything took up more space. There was also minor concerns for manuals since none were included. Manuals are available from Tektronix and those people are extremely helpful and proud of their products, as they should be. I hope the company that bought them out will continue in that tradition... so far, so good. Once I had the proper User Manual I went through it's ... Halleluliah! In truth my needs are not extreme other than response time since I deal with just a few digital projects and generally only an octave or 3 above audio frequencies. Regarding response time I am rather involved in very short term transients and this is rather crucial for me. So far this seems to do that just fine. I haven't had it long enough to try any sort of digital storage but even if that pans out badly I am still very happy with the quality and function of this scope, especially at this price. In all fairness it is only about 30-40% more expense (than what I paid) to get a top notch modern flat screen scope like the Rigol 1052 which takes up a lot less bench space but it is crucial for each seeker to determine if the specs will suit the work you wish to do. Taking up less space means nothing if it won't do what you need it to do. Apparently I could have held out and gotten a similar quality or even an analog scope for considerably less money but unfortunately I had projects that could not wait. While nobody likes feeling pressure to buy quickly in this case I cannot grouse because I am certain I got proper value for cost. This is a very serious scope, exceptionally well built, easy to use and even well supported.

Top brand, high quality for waveform diagnostics.
Tektronix is a top of the line in diagnostic and electronic repair. Although a older model, it is still a capable diagnostic tool.

The go to scope for the tough jobs.
The 2430 was and still is in some engineering departments the scope that gets called on for the "tough" jobs that non storage scopes can't handle. I'm talking about when you are looking for a signal that only occurs once or once in a while like an "error" or "fault" signal and you want to trigger on it and then see the state of ch 1 and 2 after trigger occurs. If you try that with a normal scope you will trigger, but never see the trace. The 2430 has the same great Tektronix toughness and user interface, plus parts and manuals are still available as well. The Tek CRT is legendary for reliability and clarity.
