Only of value if refurbished and upgraded to eliminate batteries
The Heathkit IM-25 was, in its day, an excellent instrument. However it required batteries to power the ohms measurement function and most of these 40-year-old instruments (like this one) were put away and stored with the batteries still in them. This causes corrosion and other internal damage as time goes on. The result is, NO INSTRUMENT OF THIS TYPE IS OF ANY USE UNTIL IT HAS BEEN REFURBISHED, REPAIRED AND UPGRATED TO ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR BATTERIES. if it HAS been upgraded to eliminate batteries and HAS been refurbished and calibrated on every range and function this is an excellent instrument. Pretty but ...Pretty USELESS
These instruments were state of the art in their day...50 some years ago. Their mercury batteries have not been available for decades now and there is no substitute for them. Voltage needed is very specific and stability and operating characteristics of the mercury cell is required. Modification to operate at the level designed would be near impossible, yet some choose to offer them for sale to insuspecting buyers at astronomical high prices forgetting to mention this MINOR battery problem !These instruments were state of the art in their day...50 some years ago.
