I bought it as an enclosure to my Hitachi 3TB platter drive. The best part I like about this enclosure is that it handles the Linux sat mode for smartctl well. Also, the metal parts help heat dissipation (the drive gets a little warm under high load, though) but smartctl can be used to put the drive in standby mode with a timeout.

Good unit with only one minor design flaw. The screws attaching the connector board to the front panel do not hold the connector tight enough and it will slip away from the front panel. The designer used half slip in holes for the screws instead of full holes, however, a little gorilla glue fixes the problem.
