The Fire HD 8 is a fine, basic tablet. I purchased it as a replacement for my outdated 1st generation iPad mini, and for the price it was a bargain. Pros: good display, sound quality, speed, and battery life. Cons: ads on startup screen and mediocre camera.

Limited performance but still a good value.
It was the price and a friend's recommendation that sold me but it does have its shortcomings. Some of my preferred apps cannot be installed on this unit. It is often sluggish and can be frustrating to use when it is. For the price, however, I must say it is still a good buy. Just be advised that you cannot use it for many apps.

Fire tablet passes the tests!
Light seems to get brighter and dimmer as I read sometimes hoping that is nothing going bad in it but a setting I need to find and change, but so far seems like a very quality tablet. I had gotten a different one from Walmart was 10" screen for almost the same price but was very bad quality adn the sound was terrible and it stopped working before the 30 days return policy even so I had to return it :( This one seems more reliable and better built...I wish I could get google play store apps on it too that is a draw back and the ads for the games every time it comes on it a drawback too I wish it wasn't so "slick" feeling on the back as it is very easy to drop but that is a thing I can live with. Like I said overall well made and works nicely for the money (so far fingers crossed)

My first tablet
This is my first tablet so I don’t have a comparison but compared to my Nook the battery life is short. I got it so I wouldn’t have to convert or de-DRM Amazon books to read on my Nook. Most everything else I can do on my phone or get on a real computer. It’s way more capable than my Nook and I’m sure I’ll start using more of its features as I get accustomed to it.

It is an all-in-one tablet that is convenient to hold and read or watch movies. It is very sturdy. You can take pictures too. You do not anything more for a very affordable price.
