First, Ryobi in general is an excellent tool manufacturer. I bought a reconditioned Ryobi reciprocating saw and 3/8 drill with 2 two amp batteries and a charger 10+ yrs ago. They still work fine with the original +1 lithium batteries. We got a dewalt 1/2" brushless impact at work and it really had me wanting to add one of these to my personal tool collection. Ryobi is the only cordless platform that I have and my experience with them has been great. I searched the net for what they had to offer in a brushless 1/2" impact tool. Found a P262 to be comparable to the new dewalt at work but was $100 cheaper and came with a battery and charger. The dewalt didn't include either. The Ryobi has the auto mode is a feature not found on the dewalt. It also has 4 led work lights built in. Other than that they are the same power and performance. I was skeptical that the +1 batterys would interchange. You know, the small print that comes with other manufacturers which says after a certain serial number or date of manufacture are things like this compatible. I was wrong to doubt Ryobi, the old batteries from my 10 yr old plus tools interchange with the new one, the new battery fits the old tools and either charger works with all of the batteries. Ryobi makes quality tools for a lot less money than the name brands.Read full review

I knew right off hand that it was defective and that is ok. I took it apart and found that the gear on the armature was loose and was spinning on the shaft. I then heated it up very hot, cooled it and then pressed it back on the armature. and walla it works like a new one!

I previously owned the P261 ,which is a fine product, but the P262 is much improved . It adds more power 450ft. lbs fastening vs.300 for the P261. More importantly it is a brushless design which gives you longer tool life, greater efficency, longer runtime on the same battery pack. Electronic speed control and auto mode, where the tool shuts down after 2-3 impacts to prevent overtightening. The 1/2 socket anvil has been changed from pin detent to friction ring for a more secure socket connection . The p262 while still user friendly is a more heavy duty quality tool .The p261 is a fine tool but the P262 is even better.

Excellent tool. I didn't think it was that strong compared to the leading brands. I bought it for domestic use, that is, for little use and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. So I decided to buy it and I don't regret it. I recommend it.
