it seems anything over 36 pages back in the day was never stapled correctly, and the spines were glued so hard together they would never lay flat. Even turning the pages normally would wrinkle the books. they are great collectors items but man sometimes they really are not worth the price. It wasn't quality work when it was printed, 30 or 40 years later it hasn't changed, shoddy mass produced thrown together crap.

It's a shame that Marvel didn't keep the license for Conan The Barbarian. Conan comics by other publishers don't quite seem like Conan to me, for some strange reason. However, this issue is the very first, from the long ago days of the '70s, and before artist Barry Smith had fully-found the unique and ornate style that he soon started to lavish upon Robert E. Howard's Cimmerian hero. If you don't have this one in your collection, you should, as it's one of the key comics of the Bronze Age. It's been reprinted several times in various collections, but nothing beats having the original. Seek one out now, and enjoy writer Roy Thomas's and illustrator Barry (Windsor) Smith's talents at the dawn of Conan's comicbook adventures.
