About this product

Product Information

"Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom" is the final game in the "Ninja Gaiden" series for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This NES title has you play as Ryu Hayabusa. In this game, Ryu has been framed by someone who looks like him and uses a replica Dragon Sword. After the murder of his friend, Ryu must clear his name and eventually uncovers a plot to destroy the Earth. This game was released in 1991 and uses the same cutscenes as earlier versions of the series. However, the cutscenes are more advanced than prior versions, displaying extra bits of action in each one. This game is similar to previous "Ninja Gaiden" games for the NES. Ryu still jumps, slashes, and climbs throughout each level, destroying all enemies in his path. "Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom" takes place across seven acts with three stages per act, for a total of 21 levels. Fight an array of unique foes, ranging from soldiers and ninjas to robots and helicopters. Unlike past games, which dealt with demons and spirits, "Ninja Gaiden III" has adversaries with a technological feel. This design applies to the levels as well, which feature high-tech gimmicks and items. These levels are still chock full of traps, including bottomless pits. In the game, you have a wealth of items at your disposal with which to dispatch enemies. These include returning favorites such as the Windmill Star and the Invincible Fire Wheel. New items also make their debut, such as the Vacuum Wave Art. This powerful weapon throws blades above and below Ryu simultaneously. Like its predecessors, this game is a challenging one to complete. Your foes are still perched in front of bottomless pits, throwing players to their doom. Many of the jumps in this game require pinpoint accuracy to land. If that wasn't enough of a challenge, your foes also have increased strength, meaning that they do more damage when they hit you. You must harness all of your ninja skills to make it through to the end of this exciting adventure."Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom" features great graphics for the time it came out. The environments are colorful and vibrant, making it easy to locate your foes. Ryu himself sports more detail than he did in previous NES "Ninja Gaiden" games. Keiji Yamagishi also returned from the first title to provide the soundtrack. As a result, this title features remixes of classic tunes from the first entry.Because this game had its release before the advent of the ESRB, the NES version of this title has no official rating. However, Tecmo originally designed the title to be suitable for all ages in 1991. "Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom" is a fantastic end to the "Ninja Gaiden" trilogy. It features challenging gameplay mixed with excellent graphics and sound. New and old fans of the franchise both enjoy this title.

    NG 3... Why so much?

Great Game, Great Graphics, Game controls are good, "floaty physics" not my style, but just my opinion. Based on gameplay it is great, but no better than ng2 or ng. ..I do not think prices should be marked up, because of rarity. A game's value should be biased on the game's play. I was happy to get it, but paid a little too much.

  • Series finale on the NES

The Ninja Gaiden games are legendary for their difficulty. I was pushed to the brink of insanity trying to complete the first 2 games. Somehow I managed to do it, but I earned my stripes. Ninja Gaiden 3 carries on the tradition of difficulty, but its definately the lesser of the 3 games. Graphically, Ninja Gaiden 3 is just as pretty as the other games. The levels are beautifully detailed and the character sprites are nice for an NES game. Musically, Ninja Gaiden 3 isn't quite on par as the other 2 games. The music isn't bad, I just can't remember any tunes for it as opposed to still humming some of the music from the other games out of nowhere. Gameplay seems a little looser than the previous titles. Your character seems to float more while jumping. For some reason, this slightly ...

  • Ninja Gaiden III (NES)- Best of the Trilogy

Not much can be said about Ninja Gaiden III, until now! The U.S. version of Ninja Gaiden 3: The Ancient Ship of Doom is the strongest of the original three games released on the NES. It was vastly altered to increase the difficulty from the Japanese version (such as taking away the password system, increasing damage taken and limited continues.) That being said, this is the hardest of the trilogy. Is that a bad thing? No, but consider buying Ninja Gaiden 1 or 2 (all to the benefit of collecting classic NES games) before advancing to the 3rd chapter. If you ever play Ninja Gaiden III, be prepared to have many re visits to each level in order for your skill to progress. The game does take a few cheap routes into making you lose, but all of the added difficulty just excels the game's ...

  • Ninja Gaiden III

While the game was a good combination of the first and second titles, the cost and value should have brought it up to it's original cost. While it's popularity in an older category has become higher once again, the rareness has been exaggerated too much. I would say for it's value, I bought the least expensive for what I found. For car enthusiasts; if the engine works good, it's worth the drive. Sure, I could have downloaded a copy somewhere, but a real cart just has better definition.

  • Awesome and then some

This game is awesome. Its just as good as the others. A lot of people that do reviews for games hate on this game. They say its to hard and there mad it only gives you 5 continues. I say quit complaining and grow a pair of balls. I like that its hard I beat it when I was a Kid and I felt Like a ninja master. All the haters out there I guess feel entitled to have unlimited continues well your not. There mad they couldn't beat this game and there not Jedi ninja gaiden masters. Don't listen to the haters. Buy this game because it kicks A$$. Its not cheap but its worth it. And yes it doesn't have the clone ninjas from the last one get over it but it does have a kick A$$ big power sword that you can get.
