The Blade Runner-style storyline finds a sentient Mega Man hunting down "Mavericks," robots gone rogue. Yet the core gameplay is virtually unchanged from earlier titles, with themed stages serving as home bases for colorful and quirky boss characters. Defeating each Maverick allows Mega Man X to acquire its distinctive weapon, from a boomerang blade to a whirling tornado, which can be used to improve his chances on subsequent stages. Truly a timeless classic.
When someone asks you "what makes a game timeless", any response you give can be applied to MegaMan X. The graphics didn't push the limits of the console, but the animations were fluid, diverse, and lively. The gameplay wasn't absolutely new and unique, but it took a winning formula and pushed it into a completely different class. The controls are fluid, intuitive, and most importantly, fun. For those unfamiliar with the game: set around 100 years after the events of MegaMan 1-10 (as of 2011), the player takes on the role of X, a new breed of robot capable of making his own decisions as to what right and wrong really are. Although he questions his place in the world, an uprising lead by the former commander of the Maverick Hunters, Sigma, compels him to join the remaining Hunters to bring ... X joins his new partner, Zero, to defeat rogue reploids in eight stages, culminating in a four stage battle to Sigma himself. Everything about MegaMan X is intriguing, captivating, and nearly flawless. The story is exactly where it needed to be for a MegaMan title, with just a hint of defeatism not present in the classic MegaMan games on the NES. The methods used to tell the story never seemed invasive, and never really detracted from the gameplay. It breaks away from the classic MegaMan pacing by adding a dash mechanic and wall slide/wall jumping mechanics that increase the depth of the gameplay, changing every stage from a mostly linear experience into what almost feels like a small open world, ready to be explored. The developers really capitalized on your new mobility options by adding tons of secrets, from extra lives, health capsules, and energy tanks, to the powerful armor modifications left by Dr. Light himself. While the levels rarely had multiple paths that lead to the same goal, they very often had branching paths to dead ends that rewarded your curiosity. Even the order you complete the stages in changes the game. For a completely new player, the game's replay value is sky high, because I can almost guarantee you won't find all of the secrets on an unaided first playthrough. No, I do guarantee that without having been helped or told about how to do it, a new player will never unlock the Hadouken. Never. Believe me, it's not enough to just know that the Hadouken is in the game, getting it is an entirely new can of worms. Overall, it isn't nostalgia. It isn't some kind of fond memory of childhood success. This game is outstanding, a paragon of the action platformer genre. Capcom tried seven times after this game's release to replicate its success and only came close (in my opinion) with MegaMan X4, and even then, close is the distance from Earth to the Sun in terms of the level of quality, detail, and love that went into MegaMan X. In the end, he truly was Dr. Light's perfect creation. Accept no substitutes.

One of the Best in the Series
Mega Man X is one of the best Mega Man titles to date. Mega Man X plays pretty much the same way as all the previous Mega Man games, but it adds some extra features that make it much more notable. In Mega Man X you go through a series of themed levels (airport, harbor, water-tower, mine, etc.) with the goal of defeating the boss at the end of each one. After you defeat the boss, you gain one of their powers. For example; beating the boss of the ice level lets you shoot out ice. Each boss also has a weakness which, for the most part, is not that easy to determine. Another interesting things is that after you beat a certain level, something may change in another level. For example; beating one level will cause the water level in another one to lower, giving you access to a power-up. All of ... Mega Man X is one of the best Mega Man titles to date. All of this seems pretty basic but while you are traversing the levels, you are doing more then just killing enemies. There are several power-ups hidden in each level. Some of them increase your life gauge while others are tanks that you fill-up with energy to refill your life during boss battles (called sub-tanks). Dr. Light (Mega Man's creator) has also hidden "capsules" throughout the levels which give Mega Man special abilities or upgrades. One such ability is Mega Man's dash ability as well as armor that reduces the damage you take. The capsules, and other power-ups are usually hidden and require a little bit of skill to get to. Mega Man X is also very well made; the graphics are great, even by today's standards. All of the levels feature great music, probably the best in the series. Most of the levels and the bosses offer a fair challenge, especially if you can't determine their weakness. After playing through the game several times, it becomes extremely easy. The last few bosses are pretty challenging, and the last boss is very tough. Capcom was also nice enough to include a password feature so you don't have to beat the entire game in one sitting. Mega Man X is a great Super Nintendo action game and I would highly recommend it to anyone who owns a Super Nintendo. I would also recommend to anyone who has a Wii or a Gamecube, that they buy the Mega Man X Collection for Gamecube. Classic game!
MegaMan X is one of the best Super Nintendo games. The game design is genius, it should be used to teach people about how to make a game. The graphics are exactly what you would expect from a SNES game, (best experienced on an older television because newer flatscreens will screw up the image a little) If you are looking for a Super Nintendo game this should be one of your first choices.

Sure you still got whatever weapon the boss you just defeated used, but upon closer inspection and probably a little back tracking, you found upgrades to X himself. It is my favorite Mega Man besides Mega Man 2, and would be a great addition to anyones game library.

Mega Man for the SNES
Enjoyable side scrolling action shooter. C'mon it's Mega Man! This is number 7 in the series, and a must own for you collectors or fan boys. The price is justified for the first one (X) but (X2) and wow (X3) are over priced. Those games are not that good. Anyhow it's worth checking out huge upgrade for the NES series.
