Barbie has come a long way since the year 1959. In her relatively brief history, Mattel’s Barbie has had more than 130 careers. Barbie can do just about anything these days, even drive a NASCAR race car. The vintage series NASCAR Official #94 Barbie 1999 Doll is proof. Dressed in an official NASCAR jumpsuit modeled after driver Bill Elliott, Barbie looks as if she could be a member of the pit crew or jump behind the wheel. In her NASCAR package, Mattel’s Barbie Doll is posed with a black and red jumpsuit and long black hair. Barbie’s red and yellow jacket even has a McDonald’s logo just like Bill Elliott’s. Barbie’s tiny baseball cap displays the NASCAR logo and her realistic looking red and black helmet has a large golden arch. Barbie is posed in front of a race car with Bill Elliott looking on. Bill Elliott is one of the winningest NASCAR drivers in the sport’s history. Often called “Awesome Bill from Dawsonville,” Bill Elliott has won race after race and award after award in car number 94. On the front of Mattel’s package the label reads: NASCAR Official #94 Collector Edition. On the reverse side of the package, paragraphs describe NASCAR and the 50th anniversary celebration. The smiling Barbie Doll is pictured in front of a pit crew servicing race car number 94 with Bill Elliott in the background. Barbie is wearing her black and red jumpsuit and seems ready to join the action. The NASCAR Official #94 Barbie 1999 Doll was issued the last year of the 50th Anniversary Celebration and the last time Mattel issued a NASCAR-themed Barbie Doll. Barbie Dolls continue to fuel children’s imaginations today just as they have in the past. A quick search shows that, among many other professions, the Barbie Doll has been portrayed as an astronaut, doctor, veterinarian, and NASCAR driver. The NASCAR series of Barbie Dolls are highly collectible. The 50th #94 Barbie is especially so as Bill Elliott is one of the most award-winning drivers in the NASCAR history. This Barbie Doll would be desirable by two separate collectors, one who loves Barbie or one who loves NASCAR. However, children play with Barbies just because it is fun and they have been playing with this iconic doll for more than 50 years. The NASCAR Barbie Doll would be a thoughtful gift for any child who loves to play with Barbies or for a young person who is just beginning a Barbie collection.
