About this product

Product Information

What would it be like to own a ranch and breed your very own monster? You would raise your monster from a little baby, build up his physical and mental attributes, have him compete in fighting tournaments for fame and recognition and have him go on various side quests to help find treasures. You would punish him for acting dishonorably around people and accommodate him with monster treats for jobs well done.

Monster Rancher is the gem that allows you to experience all of the above. It is odd and bizarre, yet at the same time original, addictive and truly innovative.

  • Great game, if you don't mind a little repetition.

Monster Rancher is a game that I played incessantly as a child. Unfortunately we lost our copy years ago, but thanks to ebay I found another. I love this game. It's exciting and inventive. One drawback to the game is that, playing it now as an adult, I've begun to realize that it does start to get a bit tedious sending your chosen monster through training after training (which is essentially what the whole game is about) but for me, I feel it is worth it. Maybe I'm just an oversensitive gamer, but I really get emotionally attached to each individual monster I raise for battle. I gave this game a "Good" rating, because although it is still one of my favorite games to play, it did start to get repetitive after a while. I'd say this game would be a great buy for ...

  • Monster Rancher PS1 Orignal Game

I *had* to buy this game, I used to play it all the time in high school at my best friend's house on the original PS. The game is very addicting. The best thing is getting to pop in a differnt cd and get it read to make monsters. Training takes quite a while, but it's a big part of the game. I love this game, it's easy and simple but keeps you glued for hours.

  • Monster Rancher

I love this game. I used to play it with my brother when we were younger. i bought it because its extremely hard to find in game stores, ive been looking for it for a while now. The graphics are decent for being such an old game. The one we played when i was younger had slightly better graphics because it was an updated remake though. You can find different monsters in random cd's and freeze them together to make better, rarer monsters. it can be very addicting. Great game for kids.

  • This is an engaging game for everyone

I absolutely love this game and recommend it highly. It provides hours of entertainment because it's very intricate and there's so much you can do with it. It kind of reminds me of a choose-your-own-adventure book. There's a basic plot to the game: You get a monster from the market, at the Shrine (where monsters are generated from your CD's), or by combining 2 existing monsters. There are >200 different kinds of monsters that you can have and they range from cute to hideous, large to small, smart to dumb, strong to weak. Once you pick a monster, you get to raise it. You decide what to feed him, how to train him, whether to punish/praise him, etc., and these decisions can affect what happens to you and your monster throughout the game. You can also battle your ...
