Saved nearly $700 by spending $40 and less than 4 hours to do myself!
My ‘05 Dodge Dakota was built with plastic end connector ends on the operating cables inside the rear access/suicide doors. They don’t holdup especially in Texas heat. Both doors stopped opening when the handle was pulled. Both doors plastic connector ends had failed. The cable was still good so I purchased the 8 pc set of aluminum ends for both doors cables and replaced them in less than 4 hours. They worked great! Directions supplied were adequate but videos online were more helpful. Local body/repair shop was going to replace cables with OEM parts with more plastic connector ends! They also wanted about $350 per door and I repaired both for $40 and 4 hours. Was a pain to do but well worth it. Chevy and Ford door cables also have plastic connectors and are known to break. Fixed it myself
These parts were the perfect fix for my Dodge Dakota suicide door that wouldn’t open. Only took about an hour or so. Next one would be much quicker since I now know what to do and what not to do. The parts fit perfectly and were much cheaper and will be longer lasting than replacing the complete cables with their plastic ends. Why didn’t the factory make them better to begin with? Thank you. Fits with slight modifications
The product worked mostly as described, although I ran into fitment issues with the upper and lower latch cable end connectors. The upper cable end connector cam lobe was slightly too large and required filing it down slightly to make it fit. The lower cable end connector is a bit tricky to fit into the slot on the latch, you need to have the open side of the cable end connector at a 90 degree angle to the opening of the slot on the latch, then force it in with pliers, then you need to rotate it so the open side of the cable end connector is facing away from the slot on the latch. If you don't rotate it after inserting it, the cable end can come loose from the slot, thus causing the initial problem to return. For the price, I would have liked more detailed directions and preferably ...
