This is a nice informative book for anyone with an interest in the history and collecting of costume jewelry. It showcases rare and unusual pieces from the author's collection and offers them up on page after page of glossy photos. However, because of the studio-type photography, many items appear flat and lifeless, particularly the clear rhinestone pieces which would be brilliant in person. Still, it looks great on my coffee table and that fabulous title ought to pique the interest of all my male guests.
Nice book, super color and pictures. More of a coffee table book though than a reference book. Some very high end costume jewelry in this book makes it interesting to read and peruse. I wanted more information on each designer. However the pictures are some of the best I've seen. Also, I was hoping for some valuations of the jewelry pieces. Nice book and I'll keep it in my collection, but not one I refer to often.
This is a beautiful book. I collect jewelry books and also catalogues from Sothebys, etc. on jewelry collections. This book has comparable quality to a beautiful catalogue but with a history of fashion (paste) from Victoria to modern collections. Most items in the book were from her own collection which is amazing in quality and scope. If you are looking for a valuation manual this is not the book but if you want a good retrospective of jewelry techniques and designs from 1838 ish this is a great reference. Give me something to aspire to in my own collecting.
