PRICE WAS GOOD, but description and pictures were somewhat misleading. The two-toned alto recorder I wanted, which I had explicitly asked for and which was most prominent in the pictures, was NOT the one I received. Also, packaging was poor and hastily done. (Musical instruments sent in an envelope???)

The item didn't arrive as described, but the seller was very communicative and able to quickly send me the missing parts.

  • Welp, it's a Fiscorn

The hot weather and horn's "challenging" intonation make it hard for me to give a really detailed run down on its playability, but it seems alright. Feels like a pretty capable instrument. Responsive, and definitely not sluggish. The Fiscorn's reputation for poor intonation doesn't seem to be an exaggeration, though. ~8" bell. Overall profile and sound is pretty much a British Baritone Horn. It's obviously more conical, but not a drastic difference. A little more power on tap. It can get raspy like a Bass Trombone if you really push it down low, and it has an amazingly rich sound in the upper range. Something like .510" bore, which is pretty beefy given how short the leadpipe is. Mouthpiece is roughly 22.3mm cup diameter. Thin, very round rim. Respectable cup depth with a not ...

  • Great horn

I was surprised at the quality of the horn and the play-ability. Easy to get a good flugel sound an octave lower that a regular horn. Sorta like a valve trombone only with a fatter, mellow sound. Haven't experimented with mouthpieces yet as the lead pipe is an odd size. They say an alto horn mouthpiece will work but I don't have any at the moment to try. A small shank T'bone fits too far down the lead pipe but is usable. Actually the supplied mouthpiece is quite good. Easy to blow and get a good tone. The trumpet player in our group didn't want to give it back. So far the valve mechanics are working well and look of good construction but time will tell. Really nice tone.

  • A pleasure to play

This is a solid, carefully crafted horn that is a great pleasure to play. I love producing the deep sound of this "conical" shaped bass flugelhorn which does truly turn out to lie between a flugelhorn and a French horn.
