    Didn't like when it first came out or a second reading decades later

    One thing blew me away was the countries that pulled the world into madness in this Cold War novel are the same ones you hear on the news today. Too much of the book is exhausted in developing characters.

    Attention!!!! "Alas Babylon" should be required reading for everyone!!

    What would your corner of the world be like if this country lost the electric grid, and all forms of communication. "Alas Babylon" is a very well written novel that grabs your attention immediately. I first read the book many years ago in high school -- in the days before the internet, cell phones, and instant information. I wondered if the story line would seem dated and not sophisticated in todays world. To my surprise it was still a "page turner"! It also captures the life in rural Florida in the 50's, before Florida became so populated. I am so glad I was able to repurchase this outstanding book!! Thank you eBay

    What an eye opening book!

    I decieded to pick this book up for a long trip. I had first heard about Pat Franks Alas Babylon through the new CBS show Jericho and decided I wanted to read it. This book should have been on my high school reading list because it was formost a life changing book. Extremely frighting in the aspects of a Nuclear Holocaust, but all the while providing for an insight in the best of humanity. Neighbors helping neighbors. I could not put this classic down!!

    Alas, Babylon. Apocalyptic book on Nuclear war in the 50's,

    Replacement for a book I have had for 40 years. Read it so many times pages were falling out. Book is from the 50s and very dated, but still good reading.
