    An absolute must for free-hand embroidery

    A really usable encyclopedia of stitches needs A: how to do it and B: WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE WHEN IT'S DONE PROPERLY. Most (like 95%) of stitch books out there will do one or the other (and not do them particularly well, even). THIS DOES; you get good, clean, detailed line drawings of how-to-do AND a photo of it when it's done. The only quibble is that the photos are taken of stitches done in yarn, not floss, but it's still brilliantly done.
