New(er) trigger technology!
It's better than the PDX-100, which doesn't have the newer trigger technology, even though it costs more and is still sold with some high-end Roland V-drum kits. The older trigger technology uses a foam cone whose tip touches the underside of the drum head exactly in the centre. Later in the life of the pad this causes a ridiculous hotspot. Hitting the pad right in the center is *vastly* louder. Replacing the foam cones made no difference for me. The pdx-8's have nothing touching the head and the response is much more even/realistic. I tossed the pdx-100s from my Roland TD50 kit and replaced them all by pdx-8s.
