seems I have bought two of these books by the same author both hard cover one and older issue than the other. If I was interested in ogling beautiful rare pens that I wouldn't expect to fine any where this book might be entertaining. I was looking for something that would place a Monetary value on the more common vintage pens that a budding collector, restorer/repairer of pens might come across. Sadly this author and these books fell very short of my expectations.

Standard work to introduce collectors to fountain pen collecting. Not encyclopedic but contains ALL the essentials and more, for example, lists main brands you might come across; and has troubleshooter designed to assist the collector in negotiation when buying, - to put you in a better position when considering a pen than the person trying to sell it to you

This is not a price book. This book shows the most desirable pens and explains how to grade and choose them. Good book for information purposes. Has photographs but not of every pen model- just the more interesting and desirable.

Jonathon Steinberg succeeded in creating a base for beginning collectors and those who are just curious about pen history. The book is very handsome, and loaded with pictures and old ads. Mr. Steinberg offers a generalized history of the most popular pens. Very easy to read and understand. I highly recommend this one for your library.
This book is universally acknowledged as the best introduction to vintage fountain pen collecting. Not overwhelming, it is concise rather than being encyclopedic and it is so short that readers report that they wouldn't go to a flea market without it! After you have read it, you WILL want to buy Jonathan Steinberg's second book: Fountain Pens - Their History And Art
