    Audix i5 instrument mic

So I used i5’s a lot both at studio sessions and live stage environment and it’s a great sounding reliable mic. Finally I got one myself. Recommend to anyone dealing with guitar cabs or drums. I also discovered it can be used nicely as a background vocals mic live. Build quality is premium. USA made.

  • Great mic for the money, better sound than the SM57 w/ wider pickup pattern

I compared this mic side-by-side with the Shure SM57. The i5 is definitely an instrument mic, it doesn't sound good with vocals. The i5 is more sensitive than the SM57, and has a wider pickup pattern due to it's design - it picks up sound not only straight-on, but from around the mic head also. We tried to use this mic for the high hat, and found it to be too sensitive, it was picking up too many other sounds. You could actually use this mic as a drum overhead, it picks up that well, although there are better quality mics for that purpose. We ended up using this mic for the flute player, instead of her previous SM57. This mic is much better for the flute. Other than drum overheads, if you try to use this mic on a drum set, you will probably find it hard to pick up JUST the drum you ...

  • AUDIX i5 Takes the WIN!! Minimal EQ

The reason why I bought this mic, it's because you really don't need to EQ really. I record my drums for my own songs in my home Studio and I prefer to have mics that can capture the sound where, I don't need to be EQing until it's perfect! It already takes the sound that you want for he snare. I also have a Shure sm57 and when you do side by side comparison Audix i5 takes the WIN, Minimal EQ if anything.

  • Audix i5 is a must have.

The Audix i5 is continuously growing in popularity due to its similarities to the world famous Shure SM57. However, the i5 carries its own distinctive sound. It is slightly brighter than the SM57 making it an amazing snare mic, as well as great to use on guitar amps, and possibly acoustic guitar. The i5 surprisingly offers great vocal recording capabilities with a nice smooth high end frequency roll off for a warm sound with no distortion. For the price, it just can't be beat, and with its sturdy build quality there is no need to baby this mic. I give it an A+, recommending that everyone with a professional or project studio keep one of these in their microphone arsenal.

  • Excellent all-around professional dynamic microphone

This is an outstanding microphone value. Works well on everything I’ve tried. Often compared to the Shure SM57. The SM57 deserves its good reputation too, but to my ears the Audix i5 is a more natural and honest sounding mic. If you are an audio hobbyist of any type and would like to know which out of the dozens of choices in this price range is your best bet for a solid all-around mic – the i5 is it. Even when you are ready to spend much more on a special purpose mic, you will still value and use your i5. If you are a pro and haven’t yet tried the Audix I5, you should consider giving it a spin. Chances are good you will find it an excellent, versatile workhorse and an asset in your microphone collection.
