The AKG Q701 Reference-Class Premium Studio headphones are a great studio monitor and DJ headphone with an incredibly accurate sound stage -- producing exceptional highs and refined lows. They are great for music production and DJ'ing because of the single-sided, detachable, 99.99% oxygen-free cable. AKG utilizes two proprietary technologies for the Q701, including varimotion, two-layer diaphragms and flat-wire, voice-coils that aid in delivering a crisp sound with minimal distortion. The AKG Q701s are ideals for professionals in music production, DJs, or casual listeners who desire an accurate sound stage that isn't too bright and doesn't have overwhelming bass. Additionally, each pair of Q701s is individually tested and numbered and comes with a 1-year manufacturer warranty to ensure a high level of quality control. The Q701s are very ergonomic, employing a leather headband and 3-D form foam ear pads. They're also highly durable and aren't as prone to breaking like other headphones, e.g. Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, due to the metal arches that they cite as 'unbreakable'.Read full review
I listen to a lot of music, with wide and varied tastes, I also play video games on my PC; as I’m unable to use speakers without disturbing the neighbours, headphones are the only choice. *** Q701's are a high end set of headphones, with plush velour ear cups, whilst the speakers provide a rich and vibrant sound stage with great frequency response and clarity. *** PROS: Cable is detachable/replaceable. *** Are the best sounding headphones for someone who wants a wide soundstage with no over pronounced bass. *** If you can get them for 150-220 GBP it's something you may never want to replace. *** CONS: The headband is made of leather (I believe) and is very firm out of the box, this can cause some mild discomfort after a few hours of use, but fades with time as it softens and as your head gets use to it. *** Note: These are Open headphones - they let sound in, and let sound out, so are best used in a reasonably quiet atmosphere. *** They are not for your ipad/iphone or mp3 player, they require amplification. Either a standalone amp or a PC soundcard with a dedicated audiophile grade headphone amp, like the Asus Xonar Essence STX. *** I use only the soundcard with an internal amp, it powers them without issue, but there is the slightest, almost non-existant difference to a dedicated amp.Read full review
